Restaurants at the University of Charlotte

The University of North Carolina in Charlotte has the advantage of being in the state's largest city. With this central location, and the quickly growing population and size of the university, there is no shortage of places around campus to grab a bite to eat.   1. Boardwalk Billy's

    • For both seafood and ribs enthusiasts around the school, Boardwalk Billy's, located right on the lake at the Shoppes at University, is the place to go. The restaurant features its own oyster bar, which also offers fresh crab legs, shrimp and mussels. In addition, Billy's serves large helpings of slow-cooked baby back rib and an array of sandwich and pasta dishes. The restaurant is a prime spot for socializing and entertainment, with two dozen different beers on tap and multiple flat-screen TVs where patrons can catch a game or two.

    The Melting Pot

    • Although fondue may have had its heyday back in the '70s, this delicious and social meal idea can be found in a restaurant next to the university known as The Melting Pot. The restaurant has numerous locations around the U.S. and Canada and specializes in various types of fondue, from savory cheeses to sweet melted chocolate. Along with the pots are an array of breads, vegetables, meats and seafood for guests to pierce, dip and enjoy. The Melting Pot also features an extensive cocktail menu that includes top-shelf martinis, margaritas and cosmopolitans.

    Thai House at University

    • With several locations in Charlotte, Thai House has been serving up Siamese cuisine to locals for more than 20 years. For those in and around UNC Charlotte, the restaurant has a location just adjacent to the campus. The menu consists of the standard Thai items such as pad thai and satay, along with such specialty entrees as "King and I," consisting of grilled shrimp and vegetables, and the spicy duck Panang, garnished with crushed peanuts and kaffir lime leaves.

    Casablanca Restaurant and Cafe

    • Like the film and the city in Morocco for which it was named, the Casablanca Restaurant and Cafe, down the street from UNC Charlotte, features a north African atmosphere. While the restaurant serves authentic Moroccan rghaif tea, along with fresh espresso and cappuccino, the menu is a combination of kebab dishes, Mediterranean pasta, and house daily specials, mostly couscous and tagine plates. Adding to the Moroccan motif is the option for guests to grab a hookah and puff on the variety of flavors provided.
