Siesta Key is a barrier island on the western coast of Florida. It is technically within the city limits of Sarasota. The key is a popular tourist destination thanks to its beaches and resorts. Also on the island are a number of restaurants, many of which focus on serving seafood.

    • The Siesta Key Oyster Bar is a popular restaurant for locals and visitors alike. Its casual atmosphere has island shack decorations, complete with a wide wooden deck and tank-topped bartenders. Every night brings live music, with many locals stepping up for open mike hours. The menu features appetizers such as coconut crusted fried shrimp, Louisiana crawfish, golden fried clam strips and seafood stuffed potato skins. Wings, sandwiches, burgers and flatbread pizzas diversify the menu. Entrees include island shrimp and scallop skewers, cheese ravioli, tempura fried soft shell crabs and pub-style beer batter fish and chips. The restaurant also features oysters on the half shell, raw or steamed.

    The Old Salty Dog

    • The Old Salty Dog on Siesta Key offers seafood, beer and ale in a casual atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. There is a full bar and a selection of wines. Happy hour brings special prices on drinks during the week. The restaurant opened in 1986 as a small beer and hot dog stand. Today, there are two locations. Appetizers include jalapeno poppers, crab dip, fresh oysters and onion rings. Main meals include fish dinners, which come with a choice of tilapia, mahi-mahi, grouper, tuna or salmon sweet bourbon; surf and turf; shrimp dinner; and a traditional English fish and chips meal. Sandwiches are on the menu with the fish sandwich being a popular choice.

    The Lobster Pot

    • The Lobster Pot is a New England-style seafood restaurant opened by Glen Medeiros. Featuring a main dining room as well as a patio, the restaurant aims for an "Old Cape Cod" feeling. The menu features appetizers like fresh clam strips, crab cakes, clams on the half shell, oysters Rockefeller, fiery scallops and shrimp cocktail. Salads and soups, including New England clam chowder and lobster bisque, are also available. Lobsters play a starring role here. Maine lobster, baked stuffed lobster duchess, lobster Newburg and baked lobster thermidor are all on the menu. Other seafood dishes include Ipswich clams, Alaskan king crab, sea scallops, and fish choices that include mahi-mahi, tuna, salmon, swordfish, red snapper and haddock.
