Siesta Key is an 8-mile long barrier island off the west coast of Sarasota, Florida. Siesta is known for its tranquil environment and its white beaches, which provide for many activities on and around the island.
  1. Bird Watching

    • Siesta Key is home to an array of bird species, and bird watching is a favorite local activity. Bird types include snowy egrets, great herons, pelicans, pink flamingos, wild parrots and sand hill cranes.

    Trademark Event

    • The Siesta Key Sunday drum circle is a weekly tradition at Siesta public beach. An hour before sundown people arrive at the beach to play drums and other percussion instruments, often accompanied by dancers, jugglers and street performers.

    Famous White Sand Beaches

    • Siesta Key is renowned for sand sculpting, and in May the world's best sand artists arrive for the annual Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest. In 1987, Siesta Key won the award for the best overall sand at the International Sand Contest.

    Activities on the Water

    • For the active visitor, water sports are available year-round on Siesta Key and include sailboarding, fishing, snorkeling and parasailing. Sailing and deep sea fishing charters are also available.
