The Museum of the American Railroad is a popular attraction for Dallas visitors and locals. It usually does not have a restaurant, instead focusing solely on displaying its immense collection of heavyweight passenger cars. The museum offers tours as well, Wednesday through Sunday. For Valentine's Day, however, the museum operates a restaurant in an old dining car on site for the weekend of the holiday. Cocktails and appetizers begin the night, while musical entertainment is offered throughout the evening. The menu mimics an authentic dining car menu. In 2010, the menu consisted of filet mignon de chef, Pennsylvania sweet potato puffs, stuffed zucchini andalouse and diamond cheese biscuits.

Sevy's Grill, run by Chef Jim "Sevy" Severson, offers a menu of steak, seafood, pastas and daily specials every day. The restaurant's large, classy dining room and back-lit bar have the perfect ambiance for a Valentine's Day dinner. Every year, the restaurant prepares a special menu for the big day. The most recent Valentine's Day menu had starters that included seared jumbo sea scallops, grilled American-style Kobe skewers and crispy calamari rings. The entrees included free-range chicken, sea bass, marinated lamb chops and crispy venison schnitzel. For dessert, Godiva chocolate crème brulee and a warm apple strudel were offered. The meal is always three courses, and champagne and wine specials also make an appearance.

Sometimes all that is needed to have a romantic night out on Valentine's Day is the right atmosphere. Even without a special Valentine's Day menu, many Dallas restaurants still get crowded. According to a Dallas News article, Chef Stephen Pyles says his restaurant, Samar, is busiest on Valentine's Day. The restaurant has a modern feel to it and serves up International tapas with influences from India, Spain and the eastern Mediterranean. There are a number of tables that are set off from the others, offering privacy and intimacy, as they are also surrounded by drapes and comfortable couches. The menu consists of tapas that include seared sous vide pork tenderloin with apples, Asturian beans and clam stew, Turkish spiced lamb pizza and Bombay-style tiger prawns. Wine and beer are also served, as well as specialty cocktails and after-dinner spirits.
