For those of us who live far away from home, it's nice to know we can pick up the phone and call home. In order to place a call outside the United States, Canada or the United Kingdom, you have to know a country's specific designated telephone code. All countries have unique telephone codes. Once you know the telephone codes and their proper sequences, you'll be on your way to getting back in touch. This article will use placing a call to Quito, Ecuador, as a model of how to do this.
Enter the international access code (the dial-out code) for the country from which you're calling. If you are calling from within the United States or Canada, enter 011; from the United Kingdom, enter 00.
Enter the Ecuador country code, 593.
Enter the city code (area code). This is a one-digit number. For example, to call Quito (Ecuador's capital), you'd enter 2.
Finally, enter your party's seven-digit number.
