How to Use AA Miles

Like most other major carriers, American Airlines offers its own frequent flier program. The program is known as the AAdvantage frequent flier program. The AAdvantage program works by allowing its members to earn points. From there, the member can use the points that they spend in several different ways. AA points can be very useful when applied right.

Fly American Airlines when you travel. For each mile you fly with American, you earn one frequent-flier mile. For example, if you fly from Los Angeles, CA to Orlando, FL, you will earn 2,217 miles for a one-way flight, according to an American Airlines representative.

Keep a record of all the miles you earn. As you build your mileage up, you will earn higher standing in the program and be able to gain more perks, such as access to American's "Admiral's Club" for free.

Use your AAdvantage miles to book flight travel. If you have enough miles, you can book free travel with the airline using your frequent flier miles. If you don't have enough, you may be able to pay part of the fare normally, and pay a portion with miles. You can also use your miles to upgrade to better seating as well.

Use miles you accrue for other products as well. American also offers products such as magazine subscriptions and newspapers in exchange for your frequent-flier miles. The number of miles needed varies according to what you are purchasing.
