There are several websites that will allow you to place a bid on airline tickets, including Skyauction.com, BiddingforTravel.com and Hotwire.com. A popular one is Priceline.com. Some airlines will accept bids on flights that have availability to sell all of the remaining seats. If you don't have a specific time you must leave and return, then bidding on airline tickets can save you a lot of money.
Determine where you want to fly. This will determine how much you should bid on the flight. Choose which days you want to fly and be flexible on your flight time to better your chances of your bid being accepted.
Compare prices. Go to several websites such as Expedia.com or Travelocity.com and get an idea on how much the flights are going for according to the destination and dates you want to fly. This will give you an idea on the price range you should bid on to increase your chances of the bid to be accepted. Then go to the website to place your bid.
Go to Priceline.com and click on the link for flights. This will take you to a screen where you will need to enter your flight information, such as destination and dates. There will be a link below this called "Name your own price." Fill in any additional information, such as how many tickets you need, and click on "Bid now."
Select arrival and departure airlines. Then place your bid. Go toward the bottom of the screen and enter your name and that of anyone else who is flying.
Fill in credit card information. Also enter an email address where the company can contact you about your flight. It will take several minutes to receive a notification by email if the amount you entered was accepted.
