Fujairah, part of the United Arab Emirates, is spread over 60 km on the coast of the Gulf of Oman. Its airport is closed. If you choose to fly in, make your arrangements to arrive at a western Emirate. From Dubai, it is a 2-hour car trip.
The beautiful beach and coast line of Fujairah invite tourists to sunbathe
and enjoy the surfing and diving. The city of Fujairah, mostly catering to business travelers, is known for its higher-end hotels.
The availability of activities are varied, starting with the Fujairah Museum, which houses archaeological artifacts. The Ain Al Madhab Gardens, or the National Park, is a spa with hotel accommodations. At this park you will also see traditional costumes, fort ruins and a playground. Fujairah Fort is 360 years old and is bordered by date gardens. The British decimated this fort in the 1900s; it has since been restored. Take a moment to see the breathtaking view from the top. Fujariah Heritage Village is a showcase for traditional houses and fishing boats that are constructed from palm fronds. During the winter, Fujairah is famous for its bullfights.
There is also the souq, called Tourist Night, an extreme shopping experience. It stays open as late as bars. The Tourist Night Souq provides not only shopping, but roller coaster rides and games for the entire family. Every kind of international restaurant awaits your palate. Don't forget to try the camel rides.
The wadis in the area are considered to be the most beautiful in the Emirates.
Diba is a city known for its beach activity; it is only 30 km away. Try a boat trip around the Gulf of Oman. This area is great for fishing as well as gorgeous sightseeing. Another unusual trip is to drive through the Hajar Mountains. Take a car that can handle the terrain. If you love beaches, go to Khor Fakkan. The village of Masafi, is divided into two parts; the larger area is considered part of Fujairah. Ras al Khaimah claims the other part. Masafi is known for its springs; its name means "pure water," acccording to Planetware. Check out the market there to find earthenware, rugs and some antiques.
