Interesting Places in Utah

Utah is a bit of an anomaly; it is often overlooked and thought of as a state with nothing to do. Maybe that is what gives it its magic. Utah is home to some of the best National Parks and nature in the United States, a myriad of interesting towns and the modern-day Mormon Church. Utah's diverse geography, from snow-covered mountaintops to the desert, gives it a unique character that many states lack. Visitors to Utah are sure to be rewarded with everlasting memories.
  1. Moab and the Moab Area

    • Moab is a small town of just under 5,000 people. It is in the eastern part of Utah, but it is at the center of one of Utah's most popular tourist regions. Arches National Park, home to Delicate Arch, is located just a few minutes north of Moab, and both Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park are only 30 miles from the town. Moab has many restaurants and shops as well as outfitters for those looking to mountain bike, climb or whitewater raft on the nearby Colorado River.

    The Mormon Temple

    • The Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City is a must see for most visitors to Utah. It is the largest of its kind in the world. Ground was broken for the project in 1853, and it took 40 years to complete. The temple is designed in a six-spire gothic style and is made of white granite. Visitors cannot enter the temple, and there are no tours available, but visitors are free to walk around the 10-acre Temple Square complex that surrounds it.

    Lake Powell

    • Lake Powell is an artificial lake and reservoir in southern Utah formed by the waters that flooded from the Colorado River as a result of the Glen Canyon Dam in Arizona. The lake forms the greater part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, where visitors can boat, water ski, Jet Ski, kayak, lay on the beach, and camp. The almost 2,000 miles of shoreline also make for good bass fishing.

    St. George

    • Located in southwestern Utah, St. George is most famous for its temperate climate. With that comes year-round golf opportunities. St. George has more than 10 golf course within its city limits, including the best that Utah has to offer. The beautiful desert red rock and white sandstone surroundings give the courses a distinctive feel that cannot be experienced anywhere else in the world.

    Park City

    • Park City is most famous for playing host to the Sundance Film Festival, but it is also home to some of the best ski runs outside of Colorado; during the 2002 Olympic Games, many of the ski and snowboard events took place at the city's three major ski resorts. Ski season lasts from late fall until early spring. The city is also famous for its many hip bars and restaurants as well as its lively nightlife. Summer opportunities for fun include mountain biking, hiking and golf.
