Things to Do in Patten, ME

Patten is a cozy town in northeastern Maine. Surrounded by Maine's natural beauty, Patten is an ideal location for outdoor activities. Patten, though small (population 1,100), offers plenty of activities for visitors.
  1. Trails and Hiking

    • Patten has many hiking trails, including the family-friendly Trout Brook Mountain Trail. This trail is in Baxter State Park. Trout Brook Mountain Trail has a 1,767-foot peak and tree-lined paths. The trail takes about a half day to traverse. For the more adventurous, the South Branch Nature Trails are also in Patten. Containing steep hills and spectacular views of Maine's northern mountainous territory, the trails offer a time-passing activity out in the wilds of this nature-rich state. The trails are surrounded by lush greenery, a picturesque lake, birds and other wildlife.

    Camping, Hunting, and Fishing

    • Conklin's Lodge and Camps combines camping, fishing, and hunting. The lodge offers a campsite with six cabins, and sites to park an RV. Guides take campers out to sanctioned hunting grounds and to lakes that offer good fishing. Camp Wapiti is a another popular campsite, offering canoeing, kayaking activities, hunting and fishing, Camp Wapiti provides guided hunting tours. Amenities include a hot tub, pool, boats for renting, and a lake full of fish.

    Lumber Museum

    • Maine has a rich logging and lumberjack heritage. The state's trees provide much of the country's lumber, paper and other wood materials. The Lumberman's Museum chronicles the rich forestry heritage that has helped defined Maine since the early 1800s. With pictures, artifacts and demonstrations of the early logging days of Maine, this museum is an important cultural reminder of Maine's heritage, and makes a great activity for visitors to the Patten area.
