The Museum of Tolerance is not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill museum, but instead is a stark and eye-opening experience that deals with hate and discrimination. The museum opened in 1993 as a way of educating people about the horrors of the Holocaust. But a visit really transcends this one event to encompass so many of the destructive emotions that humankind hides from and tries to ignore. The Museum of Tolerance is located in south Los Angeles just off the 10 freeway. The museum is closed on Saturdays and reservations are strongly encouraged.

The Getty Museum, located on the hills on the northwest edge of Los Angeles, houses thousands of timeless works of art. But, the museum itself could almost be seen in the same light. It is a sprawling, modern masterpiece covering the top of the 110-acre hillside just off the San Diego Freeway. Designed by Richard Meier, the complex is a blend of nature and culture and houses Western art dating to the Middle Ages. The Getty offers free parking and a rather interesting vertical tram ride from the parking lot to the museum and back.

See and be seen in the glamour shopping capital of the world. Rodeo Drive is famous for its movie stars and outlandishly expensive merchandise, but it's worth a few hours of your time. Kick around on the streets where the Hollywood elite go for clothes and where money is no object. Rodeo Drive is located in Beverly Hills, although the area has nothing hilly about it. The area features more than 60 of the world's most recognizable shops, including Versace, Armani, Valentino, Tiffany and Company, Ralph Lauren, Prada and Juicy Couture, just to name a few.
