How to Travel to Disney World With Toddlers

Walt Disney World is divided into four parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. Although getting to each of the parks is relatively easy, being inside the park with toddlers can be a challenge. Disney World accommodates families rather well, but there are things that every family should know before traveling to the parks.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy your tickets in advance online or by phone at 407-939-1289. This will make things easier especially if you're buying a multiple-park pass. You also won't have to wait in long lines at the beginning of your day to purchase tickets.

    • 2

Take advantage of the Fastpass system (see Resources), especially for popular rides like Peter Pan and The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Find a Fastpass distribution center. These are located at participating rides which are shown on a park map.

Have everyone in your party put their park ticket into one of the kiosks at the Fastpass center. Collect Fastpass tickets, which tell you what time to come back to the ride, and distribute them to each person in your party. You may get another Fastpass ticket after the beginning of your first Fastpass has passed. For example, if you get a Fastpass telling you to come back between 12:45 and 1:45, you may get another Fastpass ticket after 12:45.

Come back after the first time on your ticket. You don't have to come back between the two designated times. For example, if you get a Fastpass that says come back between 12:45 and 1:45, you can come back at 3:00 or 6:00.

Enjoy shorter lines by going during months when the park isn't as busy. Avoid spring break, Christmas and the summer months. Go during months when the weather isn't too hot and humid, so your kids and you are more comfortable.

    • 4

Refer to the Disney World web site for height requirements for certain rides. Measure the height of your toddlers before traveling to Disney World. Write down the height of each child and bring it with you for quick reference.

    • 5

Bring your own stroller to Disney World. Disney does offer rentals, but it's just another expense, and the rentals aren't very comfortable, anyway. You also won't be able to take the rented strollers out of the parks. Bring your own stroller especially if you're going to be at more than one park in a day or if you plan on going back to your hotel during the day.

    • 6

Pack plenty of snacks for your kids. You can bring most food into the park, too. Take advantage of having your own stroller by packing plenty of water and snacks so the kids won't get hungry and cranky.

    • 7

Find baby care centers. There are comfort baby centers at each of the Walt Disney World's four parks. These centers offer guests a place to feed and change their toddlers, and they sell items such as baby formula, too.

At Magic Kingdom, the baby center is located on Main Street next to the Crystal Palace restaurant. At Epcot, the baby care center is inside the Future World Odyssey Center. At Hollywood Studios, the center is located at guest services building. At Animal Kingdom, look for the center at Discovery Island, behind the Creature Comforts store.
