The coastal cities offer residents and tourists an opportunity to explore both an urban and rural lifestyle. Tijuana, Rosarito, Ensenada, Tecate, Mexicali, San Felipe, San Quintín and Bahia de Los Angeles provide outdoor adventures, city night life or secluded getaways.
  1. Puerto Nuevo

      Puerto Nuevo, which is located between the cities of Rosarito and Ensenada, calls itself the "Lobster Capital of Baja". Over 30 restaurants line the cobblestone streets offering lobster platters and other seafood. Many tourists drive the distance on weekends to taste the savory crustacean which is always accompanied by beans, rice and hand-made flour tortillas. The Annual Wine and Lobster Festival, which takes place during lobster season, offers a festive atmosphere complete with mariachis, live music bands, and dancers. Seven of Baja's wineries participate and some of the breweries, such as Tecate, set up shop to offer samples.

    Revolution Avenue

    • Located in the downtown district of Tijuana, just 64 kilometers away from San Diego, California, Revolution Avenue extends ten blocks, offering tourists a melting pot of both the modern and traditional culture of a Mexican border town. The well-known avenue is lined with multiple shops, eateries and bars. Tourists and California residents flock the street during the day to shop for everything from piñatas and pottery to paintings and clothes.

      Rosarito offers a laid back atmosphere during the day where visitors can lounge on the beach or frequent the shops for crafts, artwork, jewelry or pottery designed by local artists. Visitors can rent horses and ride along the coast, or if they feel more adventures can zoom up and down the waters in Sea-Doos. Once the sun sets the night life begins and visitors can frequent the multiple bars and discos located along the many streets.

    Tecate Brewery

    • The Tecate Brewery produces one of the most well-known and consumed beers in Mexico. One of the plants happens to be located in Baja California in the city of Tecate. They produce over 40 million liters per month and ship their product to numerous countries around the world. The plant offers tours on Monday through Saturday, but visitors must call ahead to make arrangements.

    El Vallecito

    • Outdoor enthusiasts can appreciate rock art like this in the Vallecito Region.

      The cave paintings in the rural regions of Mexico are another attraction that interests many outdoor enthusiasts seeking to explore Mexico's history. Rock art can be seen in areas such as the El Vallecito Region, which is located just a few miles northwest of La Rumorosa village. The area covers approximately 200 hectares and displays rock paintings detailing stars, human figures and other geometric shapes. "El Diablito" has become the most well known of the drawings due to the way the morning sun highlights its eyes. It usually takes an entire day to cover cave murals and ancient drawings.
