Walk along the boardwalk facing the Atlantic Ocean. Coney Island's waterfront border stretches from West Eighth Street to West 17th Street. The main landmarks between these two points are the New York Aquarium and the stadium home of the Single A Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team.
Dip your toes into the Atlantic Ocean. The water is clean enough to take a dip in--and many do--but swimming is occasionally forbidden due to rough currents or pollution.
Eat a Nathan's famous Coney Island hot dog. This famous destination, which opened in 1916, stands at the corner of Surf and Stillwell avenues.
Visit the homey and appealing Coney Island Museum. The facility houses a large collection of Coney Island memorabilia. As of 2010, the museum was open weekends and cost 99 cents. The Museum is part of a larger organization known as Coney Island USA, which also operates an old-time Coney Island sideshow.
Ride the Brooklyn Cyclone. Built in 1927, the Cyclone is located at 824 Surf Ave. If you can't see it from the boardwalk, follow the screams.
