One of the best resources for finding free events is the comprehensive website FreeMiamiEvents.com (see Resources). It offers weekly updates and a searchable calendar geared to specific interests and age groups. It is a resource for finding outdoor concerts, festivals, cultural events and neighborhood activities that reflect the city's diverse population.
Some of Miami's best free sights are its famed avenues and streets. Little Havana's Calle Ocho is lively day and night but is in full flower on the last Friday of every month for Viernes Culturales--Cultural Fridays.
The Art Deco walking tour in Miami Beach, sponsored by the Miami Design Preservation League, is another free activity that allows visitors to take either self-guided tours or a group tour of the town's famed iconic architecture.
There is always something going on at Miami's signature city space, Bayfront Park, rimmed by the bay on one side and the city skyline on the other. Watch the antics at the park's circus trapeze school, pause in front of patriotic monuments and public art, listen to live music, picnic or simply people watch.
Many of Miami's top museums open their doors for free on specific days or evenings--the MuseumSpot website (see Resources) has a comprehensive listing of South Florida institutions. Two of the city's more unique institutions include the Wolfsonian and The Jewish Museum of Florida. The Wolfsonian, with free admission on Friday evenings, houses an eclectic collection of 19th and 20th century artifacts from American industrial products to arts and crafts designs, political propaganda and travel industry artifacts. Miami Beach's first synagogue, now a museum, is open for free each Saturday, and exhibits detail the cultural contributions of Jewish residents to the region's multicultural tapestry.
