Held the Friday after Thanksgiving, the Ford Holiday River Parade kicks off the Christmas season on the San Antonio River Walk. When the switch is thrown, more than 122,000 lights cover the 2.5-mile public river. The parade lasts about an hour and includes floats, celebrities, bands and lavish costumes.

Beginning the last weekend in November and continuing through the first weekend in January, Six Flags Fiesta Texas hosts Holiday in the Park. The amusement park is transformed into a winter wonderland, and the Christmas story comes to life through a popular live show, "Majesty of Christmas." There is also other live entertainment, tens of thousands of holiday lights and a giant Christmas tree.
