NASA Tours in Houston, Texas

The Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, offers several tours for those interested in learning about astronauts and their experiences and travels as part of the American Space Program. Audio tours are available as well as tram rides and a special tour that allows participants to eat lunch in the astronauts' cafeteria. Because the center is operated by contractors, there are admission fees, according to NASA.
  1. Johnson Space Center Attractions

    • Admission includes access to the Space Center and Blastoff theaters, tram tour, Astronaut Space Gallery, Feeling of Space module, Starship Gallery and Kids Space Place. The Space Center Theater shows a film on what it's like to become an astronaut, beginning with the notice of acceptance into the program and ending with the astronaut's first launch. The Blastoff Theater features information on current space programs, including the exploration of Mars. The Astronaut Space Gallery offers an extensive collection of spacesuits, while the Feeling Space module includes a live, often humorous presentation showing what it's like to live in space. The Starship Gallery features artifacts dating to the first manned space flight, and Kids Space Place has interactive exhibits for kids of all ages.

    Astronaut Audio Tours

    • Astronaut Audio Tours are available both for adults and children and in Spanish. The tours guide visitors through various space center exhibits. They are narrated by John Glenn, Gene Cernan, Alan Bean, Gene Kranz, Shannon Lucid, Eileen Collins and Barry Corbin.

    Tram Tours

    • Tram tours take visitors backstage, into the inner workings of the space center, including the Historic Mission Control Center, Space Vehicle Mockup Facility and the current center for mission control, as well as the Saturn V Complex at Rocket Park. Other visits may include the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory or getting to see astronauts who are training.

    Level 9 Tours

    • These are limited to just 12 people each day and cost more per person than the regular tours. Reservations have to be made at least one day ahead of time. The tour includes a discounted two-day admission to the space center, free lunch in the Astronaut Cafeteria and visits to the Space Vehicle Mock-Up Facility, historic and new mission control centers, the vacuum chamber in the Space Environment Simulation Lab and the Neutral Buoyancy Lab. Participants must be 14 or older.
