5-Five Star Restaurants in Philadelphia

The casual and messy cheesesteak may be a popular food choice in Philadelphia, but the city is home to a few world-class, five-star restaurants as well. These restaurants offer an exquisite menu, great wine selections and some of the country's best chefs. When you're in Philadelphia, make a reservation at one of these top-rated restaurants.
  1. Fountain Restaurant

    • Located inside the Four Seasons Hotel on Logan Square, the Fountain Restaurant has earned praise from restaurant critics and food magazines such as "Bon Appetit." "Forbes Travel Guide" awarded the Fountain restaurant five stars in 2010.

The restaurant serves an American menu influenced by French cuisine. The Fountain serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and also features a tasting menu. The dining room is warm and inviting, with candles on every table, chandeliers and elaborate floral arrangements. The large windows at the Fountain restaurant provide diners with views of the Swann Memorial Fountain.

    Le Bec-Fin

    • The French restaurant Le Bec-Fin has been a Philadelphia institution since 1970. The restaurant has claimed repeated top honors, including the AAA 5 Diamond award and 5 stars from Mobil. The interior of the restaurant received an update in 2002, when it was renovated to resemble a 19th-century dining salon in Paris.

Although the restaurant originally only offered a prix-fixe multi-course menu, it introduced an a la carte menu in 2009. Diners also have the option of choosing the Grande Degustation, an eight-course meal made to order. Le Bec-Fin's dessert cart has many options for cake and pastry lovers. The restaurant's signature cake is the Gâteau Le Bec-Fin, a rum-soaked genoise with chocolate mousse.

Bar Lyonnais, located on the first floor of the restaurant, offers a perfect setting for those looking for a more casual yet still refined meal, or for those looking to have a nice glass of wine or champagne.

    Morimoto

    • If you like sushi, check out Morimoto.

Restaurateur Stephen Starr opened Morimoto, named for Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, who is the head chef, in 2002. Morimoto has been attracting diners with its omakase (multi-course tasting menus) ever since. The atmosphere at Morimoto is novel, with multi-colored light-up booths, wavy bamboo walls and a space-age aesthetic.

Chef Morimoto provides interesting twists to the dining experience, such as yosedofu, which is a tofu appetizer made at your table. The rest of the menu includes unique takes on Japanese cuisine as well as an impressive sushi and sashimi selection.
