About Planet Hollywood

Planet Hollywood, originally just a restaurant, was modeled after the Hard Rock Cafe. However, the company has not been as successful since opening in 1991. Today, the concept is expanding beyond the food and beverage industry.
  1. Original Supporters

    • The restaurant concept was financially supported in the 1990s by Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. After the company filed bankruptcy two times, Schwarzenegger ended his connection with the company in 2000.

    Concept

    • Like the Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood restaurants create an atmosphere for patrons by displaying movie memorabilia throughout. Outside the Planet Hollywood in Orlando, for example, the shrimping boat named Jenny from "Forrest Gump" is on display.

    Restaurant Locations

    • Because of bankruptcies, Planet Hollywood closed four-fifths of their restaurants. Only 22 remain. In the United States, these include locations in Orlando, Las Vegas, New York and Honolulu. Tokyo, Paris, Dubai and several other cities house these restaurants, too.

    Shopping

    • Besides offering food and beverages, Planet Hollywood also offers a wide range of merchandise, including shirts, backpacks, shot glasses, magnets, and more. The restaurants have their own gift shops but some locations have separate stores, too.

    Resorts

    • In 2007, the Aladdin casino in Las Vegas was renovated and reopened as the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. In 2009, the Planet Hollywood Towers is scheduled to open in Las Vegas. The Towers provides more rooms and a connection to the casino.
