Dessert Restaurants in Houston, Texas

Houston is one of Texas' most-visited cities and features not just top-rate shopping and attractions, but some of the best dessert restaurants in the state. The city has a rich and diverse culture, making for a variety of fine dining opportunities. For both locals and visitors, some of the best-rated restaurants offer outstanding dessert options. For those looking to sample after-dinner treats, several area restaurants deal exclusively in desserts.
  1. Dessert Gallery

    • Established in 1995, Dessert Gallery features house-made desserts and a full-service cafe. The Dessert Gallery has two locations in Houston, both of which serve the same full meal and dessert menu. Guests can choose from a variety of sweet confections, each created by head chef Sara Brook. The bakery offers an assortment of cakes and pies, a variety that has been voted Houston's best dessert seven times by readers of OutSmart Magazine. Visitors can choose from more than simple cakes and pies, as lemon squares, brownies and other specialties are also featured. For locals, box lunches complete with sandwich, chips and a cookie can be purchased as a single takeout item or for a group. Catering includes cafe items, fruit trays and desserts. Customers from out of town can also order store merchandise and treats as pre-wrapped gifts.

    Sugarbaby's

    • Sugarbaby's specializes in bite-size desserts, including an array of cupcakes, cheesecakes, mini-tarts and French macaroons. All of Sugarbaby's desserts are handmade in-house, and some, like the Bundt cakes, can be personalized. The shop also features a selection of chocolates, candies, teas and coffees, but is best known for its cupcakes. From standard flavors to more boutique offerings, the menu changes on a fairly regular basis. There are usually 12 cupcake flavors, five or six of which are available each day, while the rest are filled in with daily options or holiday and seasonal specials. The restaurant offers its own catering and customization and will ship gift orders anywhere in the country.

    Amy's Ice Creams

    • Amy's Ice Crams was established in 1984, and now offers three locations throughout the state. The ice cream shop offers seven basic flavors, including chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, as well as a rotation of 300 other flavors. These additional flavors include unique offerings like Amaretto cheesecake, banana nut and Belgian Oreo. Additionally, Amy's features flavors that utilize locally grown produce, including Fresh Peach or Cantaloupe in summer and Eggnog with or without bourbon during the December holidays. Guests looking for non-dairy or low-fat treats can enjoy a fruit ice; each location offers two flavors per day. Each is made from fresh fruit, fruit juice, sugar and water, which also makes them vegetarian- and vegan-friendly. Customers can choose from a selection of fruits, nuts, candies and baked goods to top off their cup or cone, creating hundreds of flavor possibilities.
