What was the language of Croatia in 1848?

In 1848, the official language of Croatia was Latin in government and German for business, while literature flourished using the native Shtokavian dialect of Serbo-Croatian written mainly using Gaj's Latin alphabet based on the Czech alphabet which, with minor modifications, later became the modern Croatian alphabet.
