Ignore the second person as he removes of all his items and has them examined by airport security. The scammers are betting on you being distracted by something interesting about the person that keeps your attention.
Know where your valuables are at all times--even if they are on the conveyor belt. If you're distracted by the alarm and the second person, the first person will take your valuables off the conveyor belt and leave with them. Paying attention to your own items and ignoring the scene is the best way to keep airport scan scammers a bay.
