How to Hide Valuables in Your Hotel Room

While traveling, it is important that you are always alert and know how to protect yourself and your belongings when in your hotel room. Your hotel room is not as secure as you may think because of theft and the easy access given to hotel staff. If your room does not have a safe, it is important to find a place to hide your valuables, such as jewelry, money, passports and documents.

Tape an envelope under a drawer. Bring an envelope and some packing tape with you so you can secure your money or paperwork to the bottom of a drawer. You can also tape the envelope to the back of the photo hanging in your hotel room.

Place items under your mattress. Make your bed in the morning to prevent housekeeping from lifting the mattress when cleaning the room. Place valuables under the mattress and then set your suitcases, clothes and other items on the bed.

Hide valuables in other items. Bring an empty shampoo bottle or disinfectant wipes container to place your valuables in. So a thief will be less likely to look in the containers, place them where they would normally be. For example, place the shampoo bottle in the bathroom and the wipes near the kitchenette area.

Tuck items away in clothes. Place some of your valuables in clothes pockets and hang them up in the closet. Make sure the items are in a pocket so that if the clothes are moved around your valuables do not fall out onto the floor.
