There is no formal dress code for visiting Niagara Falls. However, the microclimate created by the falls demands preparation.
Essential Gear
- Waterproof jacket / poncho: Mist is constant, especially on boat tours (Maid of the Mist / Hornblower) and Cave of the Winds. A cheap poncho works; breathable rain shell is better.
- Layered clothing: Temperatures vary 10–15°F between sunny rim and mist zone. Base layer + fleece + shell = adaptable.
- Water-resistant footwear: Wet pavement, boat decks, wet trails. Quick-dry hikers or water shoes ideal; avoid flip-flops.
- Hat with brim / cap: Sun reflection off water is intense.
- Sunglasses (polarized): Cut glare off water and mist.
