Austria's Currency: The Euro

Austria uses the Euro (€) as its official currency.

• Adopted: January 1, 1999 (accounting), January 1, 2002 (physical cash)
• Replaced: Austrian Schilling (ATS) at fixed rate €1 = 13.7603 ATS
• Eurozone member: Founding participant

Austria's strong economy and fiscal discipline made it a core eurozone member. The Euro eliminated exchange risk with major trading partners (Germany, Italy, France) and deepened European integration.
