AYUSA Global Youth Exchange offers academic year-, semester- and trimester-long programs as well as a summer-long German exchange program. For those programs that occur during the academic year, students will attend a local high school and reside with a host family. Students attending one of these programs must have at least one year of German language study and must be 15 to 18 years old.
During the summer-long exchange programs, students stay with a host family, attend four German language classes every day and visit sites throughout the country twice a week. Students must be 16 to 18 years old but need not have any prior German language experience.

AFS Intercultural Programs' academic year-, semester- and trimester-long German exchange programs focus on immersing students into the German culture and ensuring that students are interacting well with their host families. Students attend local high schools on a full-time basis and enjoy the city or countryside during the weekends with their host families.
AFS also hosts a summer German exchange program. For these students, their trips are focused on receiving intensive language instruction while also enjoying cultural and community service activities.
For both programs, students must be 15 to 18 years old and, while no previous German language experience is required, it is recommended.
