What does money in Japan look like?

Japanese yen banknotes come in denominations of 10,000, 5,000, 2,000, 1,000 and 500 yen. The 10,000 yen note is brown, the 5,000 yen note is blue, the 2,000 yen note is green, the 1,000 yen note is purple and the 500 yen note is gray.

All Japanese yen banknotes feature images of famous Japanese people on the front, and images of famous Japanese landmarks or scenes on the back. For example, the 10,000 yen note features the image of Yukichi Fukuzawa on the front, and an image of the Byodoin Temple on the back. The 5,000 yen note features the image of Ichiyo Higuchi on the front, and an image of Mount Fuji on the back. The 2,000 yen note features the image of Shibasaburo Kitasato on the front, and an image of an Okinawa sea turtle on the back. The 1,000 yen note features the image of Soseki Natsume on the front, and an image of Kiyomizu-dera Temple on the back. The 500 yen note features the image of Inazo Nitobe on the front, and an image of irises on the back.

In addition to banknotes, Japanese yen also comes in coins. The coins come in denominations of 500 yen, 100 yen, 50 yen, 10 yen, 5 yen and 1 yen. The coins are made of various metals, including copper, nickel, brass and aluminum. All Japanese yen coins feature the image of the chrysanthemum, which is the national flower of Japan.
