How to Pay in American Currency in Paris

France is part of the European Union and now uses the euro. The franc was last used in 2002, and dollars, pounds sterling and other forms of currency need to be converted to euros when you're in France or any EU country. Many shops and restaurants will accept Visa or MasterCard, though small shops and eateries will most likely accept only cash.

There will be a fee charged for converting your purchase to euros, which will depend on your credit card company or bank. Places that cater to tourists may take American Express. Tips are usually given in cash.
