Contact the United States Post Office (USPS). The USPS has several options for shipping boxes, the most reasonable being Parcel Post. Parcel Post boxes must be no more than 108 inches in height, width and depth combined, and weigh no more than 70 pounds. You can ship packages more than 108 inches, but less than 130 inches in combined height, width and depth, with an oversize charge. Deliver boxes to the post office for shipment or a postal carrier can pick up at your location for a per-pickup charge. You can send books, film, manuscripts, CDs and DVDs inexpensively via Media Mail rates.
Check out United Parcel Service (UPS) or FedEx. UPS and FedEx are shipping companies that pick up and deliver door to door as part of their regular service. Dropping off a package at one of their facilities usually results in cheaper rates. Boxes up to 150 pounds are shipped via their standard service, though both UPS and FedEx have freight services that will transport boxes and crates over 150 pounds.
Explore options offered by freight and moving companies. Traditional moving companies pack, load and transport your boxes for you, though new options now exist, such as those offered by ABF U-Pack Moving. U-Pack moving brings a trailer or moving container to your location, allows three days for you to pack it, transports the trailer or container to its destination, then allows three days to unload it. Other freight companies, such as YRC Shipping, Freight and Trucking Services, typically charge by truckload and less-than-truckload hauls, as well as by the weight and density of your boxes. These charges are listed in a standard freight classification table, available on their and other freight carriers' websites. (See Resources.)
Look into shipping services by passenger train and bus carriers. Amtrak offers cargo delivery of small packages and less-than-truckload freight shipments for small packages up to 50 pounds and palletized freight (boxes stacked and secured on a wooden freight pallet) up to 500 pounds. (See Resources.) Greyhound offers Greyhound PackageXpress (GPX) service. Boxes shipped via GPX must weigh less than 100 pounds and can't exceed 30 inches by 47 inches by 82 inches in dimension. (See Resources.) Greyhound also offers a flat-rate shipping service for pre-sized boxes up to 2 square feet and less than 50 pounds.
