Drop the trailer socket over the ball on the hitch so that it locks down. The socket and ball have to be the same size. Tighten the bolt so that it doesn't come apart during your travels.
Take safety chains to attach the trailer to the tow vehicle. Arrange the chains to form a criss-cross.
Set up the trailer lights. Test them to make sure the turn signals and brake lights work properly.
Practice driving with the boat trailer attached to the hitch in an area away from traffic. Make sure you can comfortably drive forward, turn and drive in reverse.
