Gather information about the vehicle you are using to tow a load. You need the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) in pounds, which you can identify in the vehicle's owner's manual. You can also use the vehicle's gross combination weight rating.
Identify the maximum loaded trailer weight rating of the trailer that you are towing. You can gather this information from the owner's manual of the trailer or from the rental company if it is a rented trailer. Most trailers also have a label or plate on the trailer that indicates its maximum tow weight.
Obtain the maximum tongue weight rating. This too is expressed in pounds and you can get this information from the manufacturer of the ball hitch you are using or the vehicle you are using to tow the trailer.
Input the information into a travel trailer weight calculator. If you have additional information beyond these three figures, you can enter this information into the appropriate boxes.
Click on the "Calculate" button. The calculator shows you the maximum weight of the trailer with its contents that you can haul with the hitch you are using and the vehicle with which you are towing the trailer.
