A vaccination for Hepatitis A is recommended for anyone visiting the Fiji Islands. Hepatitis A can be transmitted through food or water, even through an ice cube. Someone can possibly be exposed to Hepatitis A through foods such as fruits or vegetables that were contaminated when harvested.
A Hepatitis B vaccination is highly recommended to persons who might be exposed to blood or body fluids during their visit to Fiji. Hepatitis B can also be transmitted via sexual contact.
A vaccination to prevent the possibility of contracting Typhoid fever is highly recommended. Exposure to Typhoid typically occurs through food and water that was contaminated by fecal matter.
Although there is no threat of obtaining Yellow Fever in Fiji, you may be required to be vaccinated for it if one of your stops on the way to Fiji includes locations in Africa, Central America or South America. It is recommended that if you plan on visiting one of those areas before a trip to Fiji, you should consult your doctor to determine if a Yellow Fever vaccine is required.
It is recommended that, if you are not current on routine vaccinations for diseases such as measles, mumps, polio, tetanus and dyphtheria, that you should receive vaccinations for them before a trip to Fiji.
