Vaccinations for Travel to Fiji

Traveling to tropical locations can be a fulfilling experience, especially to those who live in northern climates where winters are harsh. Fiji is a beautiful tropical paradise that many vacationers visit to escape from the bitter cold of winter and relax. But Fiji, like some other tropical paradises, could prove dangerous to your health if you don't have proper immunizations. Although there are no vaccinations required to visit Fiji, there are some that are recommended.
  1. Hepatitis A

    • A vaccination for Hepatitis A is recommended for anyone visiting the Fiji Islands. Hepatitis A can be transmitted through food or water, even through an ice cube. Someone can possibly be exposed to Hepatitis A through foods such as fruits or vegetables that were contaminated when harvested.

    Hepatitis B

    • A Hepatitis B vaccination is highly recommended to persons who might be exposed to blood or body fluids during their visit to Fiji. Hepatitis B can also be transmitted via sexual contact.

    Typhoid

    • A vaccination to prevent the possibility of contracting Typhoid fever is highly recommended. Exposure to Typhoid typically occurs through food and water that was contaminated by fecal matter.

    Yellow Fever

    • Although there is no threat of obtaining Yellow Fever in Fiji, you may be required to be vaccinated for it if one of your stops on the way to Fiji includes locations in Africa, Central America or South America. It is recommended that if you plan on visiting one of those areas before a trip to Fiji, you should consult your doctor to determine if a Yellow Fever vaccine is required.

    Routine

    • It is recommended that, if you are not current on routine vaccinations for diseases such as measles, mumps, polio, tetanus and dyphtheria, that you should receive vaccinations for them before a trip to Fiji.
