According to Greek mythology, Mount Olympus was the home of the Olympian gods. It was believed to be the "high-roofed house of the gods" and was considered the most sacred mountain in Greece. The gods were said to have various palaces on Mount Olympus and held councils and feasts there. The gods of Mount Olympus were led by Zeus, the king of the gods. Other gods associated with Mount Olympus included Poseidon, god of the sea; Hades, god of the underworld; Hera, goddess of marriage; Athena, goddess of wisdom and warfare; Apollo, god of music and prophecy; Artemis, goddess of hunting; Ares, god of war; Aphrodite, goddess of love; Hermes, messenger of the gods; Hephaestus, god of fire and craftsmanship; and Dionysus, god of wine and fertility.
