How to Draw a Simple Map of Ancient Athens

Materials

• Paper (A4), pencil, ruler, compass, reference map of modern Athens.

Step-by-Step

1. Draw a 10 cm × 15 cm rectangle (map boundary).
2. Center vertical line = Ilissos River.
3. Top-left circle = Acropolis.
4. Bottom-right circle = Agora.
5. Line Acropolis → Agora = Sacred Way (Panathenaic procession route).
6. Line Acropolis → Ilissos = Panathenaic Way.
7. Label: Acropolis, Parthenon, Erechtheion, Agora, Stoa, Pnyx, Areopagus, Olympieion, Dipylon Gate, Kerameikos, Long Walls to Piraeus.

Add contour lines for hills (Lycabettus, Philopappos) and shade the built-up area. Use historical sources (Pausanias, archaeological plans) for accuracy.
