Second Voyage (1585-1586):

Third Voyage (1587):
- Sent a group of colonists to Roanoke Island to establish a permanent settlement
- Left behind 115 men, women, and children under the leadership of John White
- White returned to England for supplies, but was delayed by the Spanish Armada and other conflicts
- When he returned to Roanoke in 1590, the entire colony had disappeared, leaving behind the famous inscription "Croatoan"
Fourth Voyage (1602-1603):
- Raleigh organized a final voyage to search for the lost Roanoke colonists and to explore the coastline further south
- Reached as far south as present-day Guiana in South America
- Failed to find any trace of the Roanoke colonists
- Raleigh returned to England, and his patent for the colonization of North America was revoked
