Pack plenty of sunscreen as the Florida Keys are closer to the equator and there is an increased risk of sunburn and harmful ultraviolet ray exposure. To avoid the risk of over exposure to the sun, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends using a sunscreen and block with an SPF 30 that is water resistant and also protects from ultraviolet A and B rays.
During the warmer seasons make sure to pack a hat for added protection from sun exposure. Cowboy hats, baseball cap, gardening hat or anything that will protect the head and face from direct exposure to the sun is quite useful. Even with sunscreen the sun can become unbearable after a while.
In the summer months pack a lot of shorts and tee shirts. According to the Florida Keys website, the average summer temperatures are about 84 degrees and has an annual average temperature of 80 degrees. Make sure not to forget the swimming trunks if plans to swim or water activities are in the itinerary.
During the winter months the average temperature highs are 70 degrees, which is warm enough for shorts and tee shirts during the day, but may require pants and sweaters at night. Pack a light jacket just in case a cold front moves through the region.
