Passports applications can be picked up at regional passport agencies or at passport acceptance agencies (such as U.S. post offices). They are also available online (see Resources).
Passport applicants must submit two identical 2-by-2-inch color passport photos. Normal street attire is required, and hat or sunglasses are prohibited in the photos.
Applicants must present a photo ID such as a driver's license or other government-issued photo ID. Photocopies of the front and back of the ID also must be submitted.
Proof of citizenship such as a certified copy of a birth certificate or naturalization documents must be presented at the time of application.
As of September 2009, the cost for an adult passport is $75 plus a processing fee of $25. The cost for a children's passport is $60 plus the $25 processing fee.
