Requirements for a Brazilian Passport

Issued through the Brazilian Federal Police (www.dpf.gov.br), the Brazilian passport is the official document required for all Brazilian nationals travelling overseas. Whether you are applying for a Brazilian passport for the first time, renewing or replacing a lost passport, being aware of the strict application requirements will help to facilitate the process.
  1. Applying For a New Brazilian Passport

    • To apply for a passport, complete an online form on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (scedv.serpro.gov.br), print it and present it in person by appointment at an issuing office, for example a post office. Along with the application fee and form, applicants must present the required documents and identification. At the application interview, first-time passport applicants must provide a digital photo and specimens of their signature and fingerprints for storing on an electronic database. Once the passport is ready, the applicant is required to pick-up the document in person.

    Renewing A Brazilian Passport

    • The same online application form that is used for new passports is used for renewing a Brazilian passport, however renewals are carried out via post rather than in person. The application fee, two notarized copies of the application form, the expired passport and three suitable passport-sized photos must be provided along with notarized copies of the appropriate proof of identification.

Replacing a Lost or Stolen Brazilian Passport

    • Replacing a lost or stolen Brazilian passport is the same as renewing one with a few additional documents required. In addition to the required documents for all applications, a completed Loss, Stealth or Destruction of a Travel Document form and police report must also be provided with the application. A link to this form is available in the Resources section.

Applying for a Brazilian Passport Outside of Brazil

    • To apply for a Brazilian passport when outside of the country, applications must be made to the nearest Brazilian Consulate-General. As with in-country applications, application is required in person for new passports or by post for replacements and renewals. See Resources for a list of all Brazilian Consulates within the United States.
