How to Lengthen a Cargo Strap

In the process of moving, personal objects that are not tied down and secured can accumulate damage. Cargo straps are generally used to prevent large objects from sliding or moving during transportation. Cargo straps use a ratchet system to secure objects in place and are lengthened and released by engaging and holding the release tab while adjusting. Whether you are moving objects in the bed of your pickup or in a moving truck, cargo straps can be lengthened to reach around large items to secure them into place and ensure they arrive safely.

Instructions

    • 1

Engage the release tab with your fingers. Pull back and hold the release tab located in the center of the buckle.

    • 2

Pull the buckle of the cargo strap to open the ratchet. Pull the buckle all the way back so it lies flat in the fully open position.

    • 3

Use one hand to hold the buckle to provide support and use the other hand to pull on the loose end of the strap to lengthen the strap.

    • 4

Engage the release tab and shut the ratchet buckle to lock the strap. If your strap is too long once it has been lengthened and needs slight adjustment, open and close the ratchet buckle to tighten the strap.
