How to Attach Ratchet Straps
Ratchet straps are simple mechanisms that you can use to secure heavy items. They are often used when transporting heavy items behind a car, truck, motorcycle, or other vehicle. They wrap around the item so that it can be easily secured to a platform on top of the vehicle, and they are easy to tighten. If you have never used a ratchet strap before, you may struggle to use it correctly; however, once you have used a ratchet strap once, the process will seem obvious the next time.

Wrap the strap around the heavy object. Make sure not to twist it in the process.

Thread the strap through the takeup spool (also called the drum) of the ratchet strap.

Pull on the strap, tightening it so that there is just enough slack for you to fit your fist between the strap and the heavy object.

"Ratchet" the crank handle by moving it back and forth. This will tighten the strap further. Continue ratcheting until the object is completely secured by the ratchet strap.
