How do you find your national insurance number if have not used it in many years?

1. Visit the UK Government website.

- Go to the National Insurance service page ( GOV UK)

- Under the heading 'Getting your National Insurance number' click the 'Use our service’ link.

2. Sign in or create an account.

- You can sign in using Government Gateway, or create an account using GOV UK Verify.

3. Retrieve your National Insurance number.

- Once you are signed in, click on the 'View your National Insurance number' button.

- Your National Insurance number will be displayed on the screen.

If you are unable to create a GOV.UK Verify account because you don't have access to any of the required evidence or if you have no previous record with HMRC you will need to fill in a form to get your National Insurance Number sent to you.

- You can call your Jobcentre Plus office using the number given in the back of your appointment card.

- Ask to speak to the Social Security Department, who should provide you with a CA5425 form.

- This form must be completed and sent back to the Jobcentre Plus office. Once returned, you will be issued with a national insurance number within two weeks.
