New Zealand Immigration Health Requirements

You must pass the required heath immigration tests before you will be allowed to come into New Zealand as a temporary or permanent immigrant. These tests regulate and control the contagious diseases worldwide and help eliminate the spread of these diseases into New Zealand. This helps control diseases that both exist in minor reports in the county, or may have previously been eradicated within New Zealand's borders.
  1. Acceptable Health

    • There are three considerations that the New Zealand Department of Labor outlines as an acceptable standard of health. You must have a doctor complete an official medical form when your exam is conducted to prove that you have completed the appropriate medical examination. This medical certificate form must be submitted with your temporary or permanent immigrant visa application.

    Public Heath

    • The first of the three considerations is that you cannot be endangering public health when you come to New Zealand. You will not be allowed to enter the country if you have a specific job that deals directly with the community (especially involving the sick, elderly or small children) and you have a contagious disease.

    Working With Your Illness

    • The second of the three considerations is that you must be able to complete the task that you were issued a visa for. If the task was work, school, study or tourism, you must be able to perform these functions or else your visa can be revoked or denied.

    Cost of Medical Care

    • The third of the three considerations is that you must not be sick enough to place a significant financial burden on the New Zealand health system. If the Department of Labor or the Department of Immigration finds that you have an existing medical condition requiring ongoing treatment, your visa can be denied or revoked. Pregnant persons that were considering on having their baby in New Zealand fall into this category and will not be allowed to enter the country.

    Permanent Immigration/Temporary Immigration

    • You are required to complete the medical examination if you are planning on applying for a residency permit to New Zealand. Your doctor will have to sign off on the Medical and Chest X-Ray Certificate. This certificate will have to be submitted with the residency application. If you are applying for a visa to say in New Zealand for six months or less, you must complete the medical examination if your country is considered by the New Zealand government to have a high incidence of Tuberculosis. You must have a doctor complete the Temporary X-Ray Certificate form during your examination. This certificate must be submitted with the visa application.
