Contact several auto transport companies and obtain quotes for shipping, inquire about their insurance coverage and notate any other requirements the company has for transporting vehicles. You will need the make and model of the vehicle shipping, a projected time of shipment, the city you will be shipping from in New York and the address of where you want the vehicle to arrive in Florida.
Choose the auto transportation company that fits your needs in regards to shipping time, cost and insurance, and check with the SAFER system on the United States Department of Transportation's website to make sure the company is properly licensed and has a clean safety and inspection record.
Remove all personal items from the vehicle before shipping to protect your items from being lost, damaged or stolen. These items include loose articles such as portable stereo systems, garage door openers and personal documents you may have in the glove box or center console. It is also best to have your original auto insurance card and registration in your possession with just a copy of the documents left in the glove box of the vehicle.
Remove any items from the exterior that can be lost or damaged such as a removable antenna or magnets. If you have an antenna that retracts, make sure you retract it prior to shipping so it is not bent or broken upon transporting.
Wash the vehicle and take date stamped pictures of the vehicle prior to shipment. Notate any previous dents or scratches as well.
Wait for the auto transport truck to arrive at your home for pickup on the set date and time. If the auto transport company does not pick up at home, drive the vehicle to the company for transporting.
Pay the transport company the required payment at time of shipment. This could be only a portion of the total cost of shipment or it may be the full payment depending on the transport company's policies.
Inspect the vehicle upon arrival at its destination in Florida and pay the remaining payment, if any.
