Compare services. Online companies provide a multitude of international phone leasing services. Use the home page drop-down menu to select the country where the device will be used. Compare price quotes for a couple of companies. Carefully read the FAQs (frequently asked questions) and company policies. You want a good price, but also look for a company that provides 24-hour customer service. This comes in handy when assistance is required in a country 10 hours ahead or behind the U.S. time zone. The cheapest service is not necessarily the best selection.
Complete the application. Required information includes a residential address, the destination and duration of the trip. List a preferred date of phone delivery --- the handset can be delivered up to a week before the trip. A valid credit card is also required. This card will be used for billing. Before selecting a delivery date, note whether charges are incurred daily or just during usage. You could incur a significant charge before your departure.
Receive the handset. The handset is sent via FedEx Next Day service to the address indicated on the application. Call-placing and handset instructions are included with a chart detailing call-associated fees and charges. A copy of your contract is also included. Return FedEx packaging is provided to facilitate returns at the end of the contract. The handset is ready for use out of the box; charging the device is strongly advised.
Use the handset. Remember, when placing calls, that the international call format must be used. The format consists of an international dialing prefix, country code, city code and the local number. If you experience call problems, contact the leasing company's customer service to connect with English-speaking customer service agents. The customer service number is included in the handset packaging and on the company website.
Return the handset when the contract has ended. Enclose the device and all accessories in the FedEx return envelope provided by the company. Final billing is completed after the handset is returned and inventoried. A credit card charge may appear up to a month after all handset usage has been tallied.
