Ten days prior to travel the dog must visit a veterinarian to assure that the dog is up to date on shots. The vet will also check that the dog is healthy and does not carry any diseases that are dangerous to humans or other animals. A United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-approved vet must sign travel forms that release the pet for travel.
Depending on the airline, the size of the dog will determine if you can travel with the dog as a carry on or as cargo. Call the airline prior to travel to assure that you have the proper travel case and if there are any extra fees to travel with your dog.
Check with the embassy for the country your are traveling to inquiring about dog entries. Some countries do not allow dogs to enter at all, while others only allow two dogs per person. In some countries dogs must stay quarantined for a specified amount of time.
