Wear your military uniform when booking a flight or travel package on site. It might sound odd, but many companies will offer you a free upgrade or some other type of incentive when you're seen in uniform. This little tip can save you a lot of money in the long run.
Book a flight through Continental Airlines, Southwest Airlines, American Airlines or United. All of these companies offer discounted tickets for those currently active in the military. You may find discounts from other airlines as well, but you'll need to call directly and inquire about the rate.
Contact Carnival or Celebrity if you're looking for military discounts on cruise travel. Active members of the military, retired military and veterans are all eligible for this discount, as are widows and spouses of those in the military. You'll need your ID, personnel papers and military ID to take advantage of this discount.
Reserve a room through the Lodging Success Program if you're an active member of the Army or a retired member. This program offers discounted rates on hotels located around select military bases including those in Atlanta, Miami and San Antonio.
Use the Navy Elite Lodging Program to book a room if you're in the Navy. This program works like the Lodging Success Program and offers discounted rates at hotels located around Navy bases. With this program, you have the option of choosing an economy, mid-price or deluxe hotel, and all were renovated in the last five years.
Look for other companies that might offer military discounts. Disney, Holland America and Norwegian all offer military discounts to active and retired members and veterans, but you need to make arrangements ahead of time.
