All airlines have the same carry-on restrictions for international flights. You may carry on one personal item, such as a purse or laptop case, and one carry-on bag. Carry-on bags must be 45 inches or under and weigh less than 40 pounds. There is no charge for your carry-on bag.
Most airlines follow similar restrictions for checked baggage on international flights.
For travel to Europe, India, Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean, there is no charge for one checked bag. Checked bags must be 62 inches or under and weigh less than 50 pounds. A $50 excess baggage charge applies for each bag over 50 pounds but less than 70 pounds.
For travel to Asia and other international destinations, there is no charge for two checked bags. On Asian flights, some airlines will permit you to check a bag over 70 pounds and less than 110 pounds for a fee of approximately $500. If you are planning to travel with very heavy luggage, contact your airline to learn if this option is available on your flight and what the cost will be.
Depending on the international flight, you may be restricted to only checking three bags total. Contact your airline for more details if you wish to check more than three bags.
Because of the time needed for TSA (Transportation Security Administration) to screen bags for international flights, do not check your bags in at the last minute. You must have all bags checked in at least 60 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time.
