Alaska Airlines allows you to bring one carry-on piece of luggage on the plane. This luggage can measure up to 10 inches in height, 17 inches in width and 24 inches in length. You can also bring a personal item, such as a purse, laptop or briefcase on the plane. A checked bag can weigh up to 50 pounds and can have a maximum dimension (length plus width plus height) of 62 linear inches. The first three checked bags cost $20 each for regular travelers. Third or fourth bags cost $50 each. Bags over 50 pounds have an additional $50 fee.
Alaska Airlines has liquids, gels and aerosols requirements that reflect TSA regulations. Liquids, gels and aerosols include such items as drinks, toothpastes, hair gels and spray deodorants. For carry-on bags, these items must be stored in 3.4 ounce or less containers. You must place these items in a clear, quart-sized, zip-top plastic bag. You can bring certain carry-on items, such as breast milk, baby formula and over-the-counter or prescription medications, in containers larger than 3.4 ounces. These items must be presented to a security officer at the airport's checkpoint.
Alaska Airlines recommends that you use gel ice to keep perishable items (items that can spoil) cool. Gel ice in your carry-on bag must be in a three ounce or less container within a sealed, quart-sized plastic bag; however, there is no volume limit on gel ice in checked luggage. You can package raw meat and seafood in your baggage if the items are stored in sealed leak-proof containers. You may pack dry ice in your carry-on or checked bags if it is 5.5 pounds or less in weight. The dry ice must specify its contents on the outside of the package and you must declare items containing dry ice at check-in. You are not allowed to bring wet ice in either a carry-on or checked bag.
You are prohibited from bringing sharp objects in your carry-on bag on an Alaska Airlines flight. Sharp objects include box cutters, knives, carpet knives, folding or retractable blades, ice picks and razors. These items are allowed in your checked baggage. You cannot bring weapons in your carry-on, but you can pack weapons in your checked luggage. You must make sure that handguns are unloaded and stored in a hard-sided container with a lock combination or key. You must unload rifles or shotguns and store them in a locked hard container. You must have the key to the container in your possession.
