How to Make a Survival Belt out of a Paracord

A survival belt can be very useful when hiking or camping. A paracord (which is another name for a parachute cord) is an excellent choice for a survival belt. Paracords are very durable and used by the military for different tasks. While the cord can be very useful, the trick to the survival belt is to be able to unravel it quickly when needed. The belt technique used in this article allows the cord to become undone usually in less than a minute.

Take one end of the cord and form a small loop. Tie the loop ends together by using a double knot, much like the one used to double knot a shoelace. This first loop will act as the belt buckle. Next pull the cord through the loop in such a way that another loop is formed. Bring the cord end around the first loop and pull it through the second loop so that another loop is created. Continue to repeat this process until the other end of the cord is reached. While it doesn't matter how small or big the loops are, smaller loops provide a tighter support for the rest of the cord belt.

A line of loops helps compact the paracord as well as provide a fast way for unravelment.

Pull the end of the cord all the way through the last loop. The cord should tighten around the last loop and leave some of the cord end hanging by itself. When needing to unravel the cord quickly, just pull the cord end back through the last loop. Then pull the end outward and the rest of the cord will unravel itself from the loops and be ready to use.

Once completed, survival gear can be strapped into the loops in the belt for easier carrying.

Wrap the cord belt around the waist and tie the hanging cord end to the original loop, the belt buckle. When using a longer cord, wrap twice around the waist if necessary. If there is too much loose cord end hanging after this knot, weave the remainder through some of the loops to secure the end.
