Years of Service:
In addition to their basic pay, military members also receive a housing allowance and a subsistence allowance. The housing allowance is based on the member's rank and the location of their duty station. The subsistence allowance is a flat rate of $376.62 per month for all military members.
Military members also receive a variety of other benefits, including medical care, dental care, and life insurance. They are also eligible to participate in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement savings program similar to a 401(k) plan.
Here are some examples of the total monthly compensation (including basic pay, housing allowance, and subsistence allowance) for military members at different ranks and with varying years of service:
* O-1 with 2 years of service: $4,672.82
* O-3 with 8 years of service: $7,007.80
* O-5 with 16 years of service: $9,838.80
* O-7 with 26 years of service: $13,047
Military pay is generally comparable to the pay of civilian workers with similar skills and experience. However, military members also receive a number of benefits that are not available to most civilian workers, such as free housing and medical care.
